Our primary research focus centers around social emotional learning, online aggression, associated mental health concerns, responsible internet use, healthy relationships, and creating caring communities.

Key to our vision is our desire to ensure that research informs the work we do with the community, while simultaneously allowing our work with the community to inform our research and teaching; thus, CARE is comprised of three streams:

  • Research

  • Knowledge sharing/mobilization

  • Community Connections

  • Community Outreach

Students can choose to volunteer for one or all of these streams. If you are interested in joining our team or would like more information about what we do, do not hesitate to contact Danielle Law at dlaw@wlu.ca.

About Us

The Child and Adolescent Research and Education (CARE) Lab was established 2012 and is directed by Dr. Danielle M. Law, professor at Wilfrid Laurier University. The CARE Lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of children and youth. Our lab is, broadly speaking, interested in studying how children, adolescents, and young adults develop cognitively and socio-emotionally as they interact and socialize using interactive technologies.

A Day in Our Infant Room

We follow each baby’s individual schedule for feeding, naps, and play, ensuring a smooth transition from home to daycare. Our caregivers focus on building strong, responsive relationships—comforting, engaging, and supporting your baby every step of the way.

Through gentle interactions, sensory play, music, and tummy time, we help encourage early development while always prioritizing safety and comfort.

We also keep you connected with regular updates, so you can feel confident and involved in your child’s daily experiences.

Our Philosophy

Encourage independence from the beginning

Together, we outline a path forward that’s realistic, strategic, and tailored to your specific needs.

Respect the whole child

You’re part of the process. We keep communication open and decisions shared—no black boxes or surprises.

Provide a calm and responsive environment

Every project is different. We stay flexible and responsive to make sure the process fits your flow—not the other way around.

Partner with parents

When we deliver, it’s not just a finished product—it’s a solution you can trust, backed by real care and effort.

“Leaving my baby for the first time was incredibly hard, but the teachers made us feel comfortable from day one. They care for my child like their own, and that peace of mind means everything.”
